Luk – one of the world leading manufacturers of automotive clutches – was founded in 1965 in Buel (Schwarzwald). Its founder was INA Schaeffler Group. Sales on the aftermarket are responsibility of a wholly owned subsidiary of Luk -- Luk -Aftermarket Service (till July 2002 -- AS Autoteile-Service GmbH & Co) that has its subdivisions in 14 countries of the world, including Russia (from 1998). Spanish market is served by Luk Autoteile- Service S.L., situated in Madrid. On American market Luk Group is represented by AS Automotive Systems in Walley City, not far from Cleveland. The central buro of AS and a single warehouse are located in the city of Langen, not far from Frankfurt-am-Mein. Products of INA trade mark are also distributed through the distribution network of Luk AS Company.
Luk manufactures the following products: clutch covers, driven disks, release bearings and clutch kits.
Nowadays every second automobile in Germany and every forth in the world rolls off the assembly line with a Luk clutch. The firm comprises 6 500 employees, working at Luk enterprises in Germany, England, the USA and other countries of the world. All factories function according to a single technology, using in this regard a common for all Luk enterprises engineering data base. 750 people are engaged solely in designing and creation of new systems in Luk-owned design organizations.
Currently Luk can boast of over 1 000 patents for inventions in the sphere of clutches. Every year the firm produces more than 12 million clutches for automobiles and tractors, 3 million double-mass flywheels and 3 million "Lock up" systems.
In 1999 General Motors Automotive Concern gave Luk the rank “Supplier of the Year”. This honorable award was granted to 6 from 30 000 of GM suppliers. The analogous rank was given by Volkswagen concern, for which Luk supplies double-mass flywheels. The share of supplies for this Concern equals to 20% of all products, manufactured by Luk.
Besides, Luk carries out supplies to the assembling productions of DaimlerChriysler, Ford, Volvo, Jaguar, BMW, Rover, PSA, Nissan, Ranault, Fiat, CNH and many others. Products, meant for assembly lines of automotive factories and their authorized services as well as for the aftermarket (OE, OES and AM), are manufactured according to a single technology, roll off from one and the same assembly lines and correspondingly have the same level of quality. All products are subject to 100% final inspection.
